Frocester
c.c. v Cam c.c. under 15b match report.
On Thursday 30th
June Frocester hosted Cam in the penultimate game of the season.
When I took on
the B’s at the
start of the season it would be fair to say that my expectations
were not high . With only 18 players in total for both the
A&B squads it was always in my mind to play with the few
under 15s and make up the rest with the under 13s. With the
likes of Minchinhampton down from the first division and Cam who
often fielded a competitive side in our group I felt that it
would be a case of letting the players all have a go, have fun
and enjoy themselves and
to this end that is what they have done . What I did not count
on was the tremendous team spirit and belief that this side has
shown. Everyone from Mark Glew captain for the first time
learning from his mistakes quickly [yes Mark there were
mistakes] to Josh Prichard who took on the roll of wicket
keeper, also for the first time and has contributed so well to
our achievements [not a single bye in the last game] to Tom
Fisher, Tom Jacks, Will Lewis and all under 13s who have played
above their age group with such commitment and with not a single
moan or groan about not getting a bat or a bowl [this will be
rectified in the next few games] and to all the rest of the
players who I could go on to but I am a cricket coach not an
English teacher as you can tell by the spelling mistakes,
at the end of the day you all have been there and seen
for yourselves how well your sons have done.
Right to the
game [we won end of story] well ok there was a bit more to it
Frocester won the
toss and decided to field first at the opening pair of E.
Paddock 54 and W
.Hayward 10 Cam got off to a rare flyer
scoring 31 off the first 5 over’s
but with this team when one player struggles another
steps up to the mark and this was the case with M. Tudor and
J.Pinker who put the brakes on the Cam attack with some
excellent bowling from both [4-1-11-2] and[ 4-1-11-0] to peg
them back to 53 for 2 off 12 over’s
and with the support bowling of O. SUMMERS, T .Fisher, W.
LEWIS and the always
reliable P. OLD added to restricting Cam to 93-4-20 over’s
with A. FORD 17 out last ball of the innings
With
Cam posting a very competitive score, it was up to the new
opening partnership of J. LISTER and M. TUDOR to keep Frocester
on the run rate in the early over’s, and then to cash in on
the slow scoring of the Cam side in the middle of their innings.
This they did until a silly run out in the 5th over when a
rather ambitious run to the keeper found both batsmen standing
in the middle of the wicket [point 1 Marcus you are not USAIN
BOLT point 2 Jack you should have just stood your ground and
said don’t be stupid in
a polite manner ] this then brought G. FIELD to the middle and
once again showing signs
of maturity well above their ages continued to stroke the ball
around the field frustrating the Cam attack with some confident
running between the wickets and when the wicket finally fell
that of M. TUDOR 32 it was Frocester in the driver’s seat on
76-2-in the 14th over needing only 18 to win off the last 6
over’s, at this moment again a surprise with some parents’
suggesting that the Captain should maybe go in ahead of J.
Prichard he stuck to his guns and showed faith with his batting
line up which was rewarded with Josh scoring a quick fire 21 and
when George Field reversed swept the Cam bowler in the 16th over
for 4 it was all over and Frocester were home with 4 overs to
spare and 8 wickets in hand.
