Match
held at Frocester on June 23rd against
Minchinhampton.
The toss was
won by Frocester who elected to bat first.
With this match possibly deciding the league winner’s
tactics were all important.
J. Lister & M. Glew opened the batting and under
pressure from the Minchinhampton opening bowlers Tom
Stevens & M Cole, made steady progress until M. Glew was
dismissed in the fourth over (for 3)with the score at 17 for 1.
G. Field then came to the crease and stayed for two
over’s scoring only 4and with Frocester now with 2of there top
order removed looked to J. LISTER to steady the ship .but
despite his steady batting he could not stop the strong Minch
attack from continuing to take wickets with himself falling in
the 12 over for 27 and Frocester on only 48-4. With wickets
still tumbling W. LEWIS 2 and O. SUMMERS 2 E. ASHTON 5
it fell to J. PINKER 8 not out
and M. TUDOR 15
not out to see
Frocester through the remaining
5 over’s without further loss and Frocester
on 84-7 of their 20 over’s
and all the Minch bowlers with very tidy figures
M. COLE 4-19-2 TOM.STEVENS3-0-6 TAYLOR. STEVENS 4-20-2
E.PATIENT4-16-2
A. DOUCH 3-14-1 R.
COULING 2-9-0.
With the first
half of the game going to Minch it was vital for Frocester to
try and strike back quickly if they were to have a chance of
keeping Minch below a lower than average total. Minch got off to
a steady start scoring 10 of the first 2 overs but loosing there
opening bat of E. Patient for
0 to M. Glew, followed by 2 more for G. Field in the fourth
removing T. Richards for 5 and Tye. Stevens for 6, with
Frocester sniffing a chance M. Glew produced 2 more excellent
overs of swing bowling to capture the wicket of Leo. Cuss for 3
and with G. Field finishing his spell with figures of 4-1-13-2
and M. Glew 4-1-8-2, Minch found themselves on 28-4-8 overs.
With the game
evenly poised but Frocester playing like a dog with a bone there
was no let up for the Minch batsman as first P. Old struck in
his first over A. Douch for 1 followed by J. Pinker dismissing
T. Stae for 5 LBW with his first ball, with a lesser side this
would have been the end for the opposition but not Minch who
were not going to go down without a fight and with some dogged
batting by R. Coleing 13 and T. Stevens 8 Minch inched within
sight of victory reaching 62-9-16 overs and needing just 23 to
win off the last 4 overs, it was going to be nick and tuck as to
who was going to come out on top. With the boundary looking like
a episode of top gear with patents leaning forward waiting to
find out their lap times.
In the end it
fell to a great bit of fielding from Frocester Captain M. Glew
with a superb direct hit from long on to dismiss L. Greatheard
for 7 and Minch all out for 70 seeing Frocester win by 14 runs.
P. Old 4-1-11-2 J. Pinker 4-0-24-2 M. Tudor 1.2-0-1-0 and W.
Lewis 1-0-7-0. Both parents and coaches said after the game how
well both teams had played and what a pleasure it had been to
watch and umpire such a enthralling game. Both teams are to play
a game in a friendly later in the season if you are a neutral
fan of this beautiful game miss it at your peril.
