Under 15's v Charlton Kings
Sunday 15th May

On Sunday the 15th Frocester under 15a played hosts to Charlton Kings in the first game of the longer format of  45over’s after a delayed start and the match reduced to 40 over’s Frocester chose to bat on what looked a good wicket . Despite some good bowling the home team got off to a good start scoring 40 off the first 8 over’s for the loss of only the wicket of M. Ashton 0. With J. Dunford now at the crease the home team continued to push the total along until Dunford was out three balls before the drinks break bowled by A. Griffiths 26 followed just after the break by C. Gegg 46 just short of his fifty and Frocester on 99-3 off 20 overs .This  brought together both the two new batsmen of A. Ireland and B. Hopkins  and needing to push home the advantage .This looked in doubt when Ireland came forward down the wicket and missed and should have been stumped by the Charlton Kings keeper a chance they would regret as Ireland went on to make an unbeaten 86 and when Hopkins was out for 34 there was no let up for the Carlton Kings bowlers with a cameo role by J. Roberts 21 with Frocester finishing on 280 for 5 of their 40 overs . The best of the Charlton bowlers being   A. Griffiths  5-20-1 wicket.

With Charlton Kings needing to get off to a steady start it was up to the opening bats of A. Griffiths and W. MacDonald to try and make headway from the opening bowling of J. Roberts and J. Gillett. This was not to be with Gillett striking with the second ball of his over taking the wicket of A. Griffiths for  4, followed by A. Brunt for 1 to Roberts in the next over with wickets then falling in the next 9 overs Charlton Kings were in tatters on 33-5 off the first 12 overs. With the top order dismissed it was up to the middle order of D. O’Dea and A. White to try and regain some pride for the team. With the former making 11 before being bowled by M. Glew this exposed the tail and despite some positive batting by A. White 46 not out Charlton Kings collapsed to all out for 96.

The pick of the bowlers being J. Roberts  8-1-24-3, J. Gillett 8-2-10-2, M. Glew 3-1-7-2.

A fine all round performance by the A’s we look forward to our next game away to Knowle on the 12th June.
